What’s The Best Way To Get Rid Of Black Ants In The Home?

I've recently noticed black ants on the plants in my apt which is on the top (4th) floor of the building. I've lived there for six years and never had this problem before so I don't know what to do. I set out ant traps that have boric acid in them on Monday but I have yet to see an ant visit one so I don't know that they're doing any good. Help!
