we have red ants in our garden and they just keep coming back. We can't use amonia because of the vegtables any ideas?

You can try ant stakes, as they will not hurt the garden, but red ants, are nasty, and I would use a small can of ant spray, and hammer them.
Why, the ants is good for the plants to protects insects, it is better than insecticide…

Try reaching a compromise.
Tell them that they are annoying you, and that their behaviour/routes are hazardous for their own safety.
Show them another place to live, even though it’s not so nice.
Help them to move.
If they come back warn them again and again and again,
physically pushing them back into their own zone and erecting barriers to contain them
If they still persist blast them to hell.

mix equal parts vinegar and lemon juice and pour it on the ant mound will not effect your veggies . good luck .
Go to Home Depot or Lowes and in the garden department they have special type of gardening accessories to help you with this problem, just find a worker there and let them know your situation and I guarantee you’ll be ant free in no time! =)
Some ‘natural’ ways:
-Pour boiling water onto their hills
-Lay sprigs of fresh mint &/or brew some STRONG mint tea & spray along their path
-Recipe to rid ants: 5 T cornmeal, 3 T bacon grease, 3 T baking powder, 3 pkgs baker’s yeast – Mix first 2 into a paste then add 2nd 2 ingredients – Put into jar lids or… & set around the area or near their hill – They are supposed to love this stuff to Death!!
