How Can I Get Rid Of Ants With What I Have In My Home?

I moved into a new apartment and I have just found ants in my house. I need to find out if there is something in the house I can use to get rid of them at no expense or danger to my cat.

I once heard that putting down dry grits will kill them…they blow up.

Sure fire way to get rid of ants is to get an Anteater as a pet.

One of the best things to use is borate. This is a naturally-occurring mineral and is harmless to humans and animals, but is devastating to insects and wood boring pests. You could eat a spoonful of borate and suffer no ill effects, eat several teaspoons and you might feel some gastric discomfort, but that’s true with anything in excess. It is the main ingredient in things like Borax and in certain powdered roach killers. You should be able to find some sort of borate-based powder in hardware of even grocery stores… just ask for something with borate in it. Then just sprinkle a line of it around your baseboards. Your kitty won’t mind it but the ants will find their joints seize up. Borate is safe and natural and environmentally-friendly. Pure borate is best; you don’t need any other ingredients, and certainly no poison. Best thing you can use.

My Grandma uses cucumbers. Don’t ask how it works, cause I can’t imagine, but it does.

Borax works, but I am not sure how safe it might be for the kitty cat. It is cheap – found in the grocery store with the laundry detergent products.

They won’t cross a line of petrolium jelly. When ants come into my house, I make sure that all of the foods which can’t be completely sealed are in hanging baskets, then I put a thick dab of petrolium jelly on the hooks that the baskets hang from. They can’t walk onto the hook, so they can’t get into the basket. It works really well!
I’ve also heard that they won’t cross a thickly-drawn line of sidewalk chalk, but I haven’t tried that myself yet.
Good luck! Ants can be really annoying.

I heard baking soda on the trail will keep them away. I used all purpose cleaner to spray them before and they stayed away for a while. The best thing is to spray the areas with an ant killer or put up bait traps….
