find where they are coming from. pour a liberal amount of ground cinnamon on that area. Ants hate cinnamon and will not want to enter. I had the same problem.

an old remedy, I AM NOT sure if this works or not, but i always wanted to see if it would, i found an old book with home remedy stuff in it, and it said to put a CHALK line outside your doors.
Apparently chalk burns ant's feet and they will not cross,
once again i don't know for sure if this is true or not but i always wanted to try it. Good luck.

Wash your trash can often and then spray the inside with either a bug repellant (like house and garden spray) or with lysol or even use one of those sweet smelling baking powder bags and remove the garbage evry day (like every morning when you leave for work).
Either those ants like the same food you do (apparently it's sweet) or you're on the first floor and the place is sitting on an ant hill. In which case you would go around the building spraying with your "House and Garden Spray" which you can buy in aerosol form I think it's by Raid. You can also spray that behind the frig and in-between your stove and where you cut up your food.
You're lucky you have the small ants because here they are the red ants (that bite and bites last a week or two) or carpenter ants (which bore into the doors of a home). You can also use ant bait and it's like little houses that they crawl into and die. Or put one of those baits into your garbage can.

You could get some spray at about any store. It runs really cheap, so that's a plus. Or, you could use a get a sticky trap.
